DBT
DBT is a modified version of CBT. It was created initially to help treat Personality Disorders (mainly borderline personality disorder) through individual sessions, group skills sessions and phone coaching/support. However, it has proven to be useful for a range of difficulties and can be used in individual sessions for a variety of issues: substance misuse, anxiety,/depression, eating disorders relationship difficulties etc.
DBT’s main focus is to help you live in the moment, cope better with your emotions (affect regulation) when you experience them intensely, improve your relationships and interactions, process traumas, move away from destructive patterns and ultimately, to be able to better cope and thrive. There are many useful skills taught in DBT (such as Mindfulness) which can even be applicable to every day struggles.
